Tree Peony Help!!

Hello everyone!

I'm wondering if somebody has encountered the same problem /has a solution for the following:

I bought this tree peony around 2 years ago and it hasn't flowered since then. It has sprung to life this year as we moved it into a sunnier location autumn last year but the leaves are all turning purple. They started off green but as the weeks have gone by more and more leaves have gone this purple colour. Is it just the plant or something else? I have read somewhere about a fungus it could possibly have but i'm not sure.

Also any tips to help tree peonies flower as this one just hasn't been the same since we bought it :(

Thanks!
Rachel

    I know @nutcutlet grows tree paeonies … I’ve given her a nudge. 😊

I'm nudged. That doesn't look like any of mine. Do you still have the label or remember what the name is. Is it one of those intersectional hybrid ones or are there woody stems?

@racheljwelsh if it is a tree peony planted as a bareroot, it may take a few years to flower. I've noticed that peonies with dark pink flowers usually have a shading on some of its leaves. HTH.

  • Hi guys,

    Thanks for the responses!

@nutcutlet it was a woody tree peony i believe but not from bare root. we bought the plant already fairly substantial in size. I've attached a picture of what it used to look like coming home from the garden centre, annoyingly you cant see the label! should i prune mine back at all?

@Eustace thanks, i think it is pink but mine has so many more dark patches than yours :( am still worried its something more

Our main tree peony (Paeonia ludlowii) took many many years to flower. We were advised to add wood ash to the base and (probably a fluke) it flowered the next year.
