Miracle Gro all purpose peat-free compost - smells like manure

I recently got some of this and my repotted tomato plants now smell like manure. I have used it before and never had the issue, but I got it from a different shop. Is the bag I have rotten in some way? Is it common to find different bags of the same product where some smell bad and some don't? I didn't particularly notice any manure smell when repotting, so could it be an issue with my repotting?

    I got a bag like that from a different company last year or so. It smelt so bad that I used it as a mulch as far away from the house as possible. It didn't harm the plants as far as I could tell. I just assumed they'd put manure in the wrong bag. Maybe not.🤔
