growing climbing nasturtium up a trellis..

hi guys - I've got a pack of trailing (although I assume they're also climbing) nasturtium and I'm looking to grow it up a trellis

having looked online - it seems to suggest full sun is required for vigorous growth. the spot i'm looking to put it in gets around 3 1/2 - 4hrs of full sun (late afternoon/evening) plus around an hour of dappled sunlight before and after that

just wondering whether the nasturtium will struggle in this spot - or is it better to plant in an area which gets 6 or so hrs of sun a day?

thanks guys!

They can take a semi shaded position but they won't flower as much, so give them as much sun as you can to get the most flowers.
They are best in slightly poor soil as in a rich soil you get lots of leaves which hide the flowers.

I agree with @thevictorian, also trailing and climbing aren't the same, it doesn't cling or twist around or do anything to help itself stay up there. So you could have a magnificent specimen against a wall - until a heavy shower or a gust of wind came along

  • it says on the pack climbing/trailing. we will see, I guess. how close to the trellis should I plant?
