Cordylines

hello all my problem is I have pointed spikes coming out of some of the cordyline trunks, it’s not a flower spike , I have one of those on one of the trunks and no spikes on that one, it’s the same plant , a few trunk tops died in the extreme cold weather we had last yeas and I had to saw off the tops where the soft trunk ended , all the damaged trunks bar 3 have remained with leaves, only the flowering one has no spikes, what are they please

Those are emerging shoots which will develop into another head of leaves, a natural response to cutting one of the existing trunks as seen in your photo.  You can let them develop and see whether you like the result or simply remove some or all of them with a sharp pair of secateurs.  This won’t cause any harm to the plant.
    Wirral. Sandy, free draining soil.

  • Thankyou so much, I hoped it would be something like that, I was unsure at cutting off the damaged heads but it seems to have worked
