Yew tree concern

I've planted a yew hedge in my front garden. I've recently found out how poisonous they are. Should I remove them or any precautions I should take?

Just don’t eat any of it 😉

Seriously tho, just keep an eye on very small children who might be tempted by red berries … teach them not to eat things without asking you first.

Otherwise, unless it’s alongside a grazing meadow of cows or horses I wouldn’t worry. It’s a common plant and the human race has survived so far 😊

And welcome to the forum 😊

  • I think berries are the only bit that isn't dangerous but you make good points there is loads around for hedges

It’s misleading to say that the berries aren’t dangerous because they contain the seeds which are toxic.

May I say "arse about face".

Your decision making has been all in the wrong order.  Do your learning and thinking before your planting.

A yew hedge is fine and if you have bought and recently planted, it would be rather expensive to remove and replace with something else.
As with so many "toxic" plants, it won't do you any harm unless you ingest.  If the hedge is alongside a public pathway, you can always post a sign by your gate warning people not to eat the berries when they appear.  Other than that, I don't think you need to concern yourself :)

    Absolutely agree @philippasmith2

Bédé … why so rude yet again?

We don’t know what we don’t know … even you.

There have been times when you’ve misunderstood how parts of this forum operate and we’ve been pleasant to you and explained.  You’ve even acknowledged that kindness … why are you so disparaging when new folk ask for help? What are you trying to prove?

Bede   Do your learning and thinking before you plant ???  Or even before you post ? The OP expressed a concern and asked for advice.  Take a leaf ( or maybe even a tree ) out of your own book before taking others to task. Just a suggestion of course - wouldn't dream of telling you what you SHOULD do.

If it's going to be regularly trimmed as a hedge , there'll probably be no berries anyway.
