Fig pest

My friend is losing her figs to a little pest (we think). Can anyone identify it and tell us how to get rid of it please?

Hi Sarah. Welcome to the forum.
Where is the fig tree......that is, is it in the UK and if so, approximately where? I only ask because this early in the season there is no way that figs would be big enough to ripen in the UK. The structure of the fig in the photograph suggests that it grew last year and has been left on the tree. A fig tree can have a decent crop of ripe fruits before autumn, but some of the figs fail to ripen and should be removed from the tree over winter in order that the tree can produce a new crop.
Hope that helps but if I have misinterpreted the photo, do tell me.

  • Ah, thank you! Yes, in the UK. Rutland. There are new healthy figs on the tree below so hopefully they’ll be fine. We shall keep an eye. We shall remove these now and bear in mind for next year. Thanks for the speedy response!
    best wishes,
    Sarah

Hope your friend gets a good crop. They are like eating toffee from a tree.
