Morning all, we had to be away from this house for a while and the lawn really went downhill. I've attached a photo but apart from it's appearance there are a number of bare patches. I have some lawn fertiliser but that can't be applied until it rains and  in an ideal world I'd take it up and start again however like a lot of other people there are more important things to spending our money on. Please can anyone suggest what I could try to and get these brown areas looking green again? Thank you

    I should have added that the brown parts of the lawn were in fact a lovely lush green  about a week or so ago when it was mown by a guy using a petrol mower, could it be that it has been cut too short or perhaps the mower blade could have been sharper?
