Growing in pots

I have to grow turnips in tubs this year 80 cm but I find most of them bolting planted I new general compost what am I doing wrong

    Have you had success in the ground previously?  On Gardners Question Time they say they are very much a 'field crop' and don't perform well for home gardeners.  Or at least, I think that was turnips.. but maybe it was swedes?  

    Regardless, likely they dried out a bit.. I think they really need even moisture to thrive.
