Exactly @AnniD - most of us, and our gardens, evolve over time, and as budget and improving skills allow us to fire our imagination and fulfil our needs and hopes.
@Obelixx you've summed it up perfectly for me. That's exactly how my shambles of a garden is developing especially with the lack of skills and experience side of things I stick things in then a year later move them around and so on. My hopes are ever there I suppose its what keeps the interest and motivation going.

Same here, have no real idea of what I'm trying to achieve, but most of my inspiration comes from growing up in a very rural Ireland, where there were wild roses, foxgloves and ferns growing in country lanes.....so, atm my garden is full of the above with a few other additions, all on a very small Victorian terraced house garden, only about 12M by by 6M, if I'm generous, but I do try to cram in as much as I can. I found 2 gaps in my flowerbeds and texted my other gardener friend that we HAD to visit the local GC this week...........and true to form, I'm thinking Dahlias. I'm always complaining they take up too much room and too much water, so that'll be something to spend Summer moaning about!
