Sick Fatsia Japonica

Has anyone seen this before? Mature Fatsia, v v healthy then suddenly all the new growth in all the crowns got sick. Emerging leaves are curled and pock marked as soon as they unfurl, as they grow they become patchy with yellow spots and fail to thrive. The brow fur on the new shoots doesn't disperse as usual. My first thought was fungus of some sort so I sprayed with fungicide but it progressed. I thought maybe spider mites but I've squinted and squinted and nothing visible. I've removed all the damage crowns and leaves, about to spray with Soap and Neem once the sun goes down. Anyone seen this before/ got any ideas? ev

Could it still be red spider mite? I have seen it before on Fatsia grown outside. The marks in photo four look just like it.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.
  • Thanks, I'm leaning that way but I have really looked and can't see any. It looks more likely now with the newer marks, they've taken a while to develop as the leaves opened....but I can't see any little red dudes pottering around. No bugs at all apart from a couple of stray blackfly.

My fatsia was in a similar situation a year ago, looking sad but I couldn't see any spider mites. I jet-washed it with the hose a few times (esp under the leaves) and kept a close eye on it. It recovered soon after.
