Tree ID

skankinpickleskankinpickle Posts: 119
I am so bad at identifying trees.

First 2 photos are the same tree type (they seem to grow anywhere and everywhere).

No idea what the 3rd photo is.

The last (4th posted) photo I think is a sycamore (would be good to get confirmation, lol).

    The third is sycamore.
The other two I'm  hazarding a guess at, but someone will be able to help a bit more I expect.
First possibly ceanothus, second possibly ribes (flowering currant)

    So to clarify it seems.

    1-2 Cotoneaster
    3 Ribes
    4 Sycamore

It seems I should definitely keep the Ribes as that flowers. Will have to make a decision on the sycamore as it has started to encroach on a rhododendron bush.
The cotoneasters seem to be quite prolific (I cut 4 small ones out last year as they were growing under other things and also one from the side of the house and the perimeter wall.

The sycamore will want to be a huge tree and the bigger it gets, the harder it will be to dig out. If you just cut it down it'll regrow multiple stems from the base.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained

The one in the photo is already over 6 foot tall. Plus it is growing in between and close to the rhododendron and ribes. I cannot imagine how far the roots already stretch across and down. Digging out would probably interfere with the other 2.

Dig it out now!  Then give the ribes and rhododendron a good deep drink of water. They’ll recover. They won’t survive for  very long if they continue growing that close to a sycamore.
