Give your new neighbours time. When I moved into my last house, as a lifelong gardener, when my neighbours husband informed me that his wife was a wonderful gardener if I needed any help with mine, I politely said "Thank you very much" but continued with my own plans for my garden. We soon became friends and spent many happy times talking gardening over the fence.
When we moved into our current home, the neighbours got a little worried - as we took down the shed, demolished the greenhouse, removed a wall, and took out a leylandii, a buddleia, several roses and dozens of shrubs. We then replaced fencing on three sides, reduced the area of lawn, and planted fruit bushes and trees, as well as countless shrubs and flowers. 21 years later, we're looking to move again!!
Some neighbours might do things in ways we disapprove of, but I'm sure I've caused consternation to my neighbours too.
