Dahlia cafe au lait is a favourite for weddings, one head per vase (or bottle).   If you are doing your own flowers , start thinking about the vases.  I found charity shops an excellent source , you could use empty fancy spirit bottles . Depending on where you are having the reception, I had mine in an old house near you and used old copper jugs.  Cosmos make excellent fillers for that time of year.
Have you got a colour scheme planned?
These were mid september 2018 for a neighbours daughters wedding.

These look lovely! Thanks for the suggestions. No we haven't decided on a colour theme as of yet, we're currently looking at them but it's so hard to decide.

I did the flowers for my son's wedding in our garden in August last year. My friend arrived the day before with loads from her garden, and together we had plenty for the jam jars (which we decorated with various hessian-lace ribbons from Etsy): cosmos, dahlias, zinnias, echinops, strawflowers, scabious and many more... I guess lots of these will be going still in September... oh, and don't forget grasses. We had loads of panicum sparkling fountain... easy to grow from seed next spring and just one sprig adds a lovely frothiness to the posies.
