Just come back from work to find two of my sweetcorn plants chewed right through, and another two with the corns opened and eaten. Any ideas as to what is doing it. My thoughts are squirrels, but how do I stop them?. I would be very grateful for suggestions

I think you're right suspecting squirrels.  Not much you can do.  Dogs or cats will chase them away, but netting is usually useless against them.  Sweetcorn freezes very well, so if they are ready to eat, pick the lot and freeze them.

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

Yes, I has 70 cobs pinched in an afternoon, a few years ago. we had 2 the squirrels had the rest. OH followed the trail of husks into the wood, to a drey. I presume they were statshed for the winter.

  • Thank you both. I will take your advice Bob, and freeze the few that are left
