How far to plant from fence
Novice gardener here, sorry if this is a stupid question.
I've been told I have to plant our new Photinia at least 60cm away from our fence.
I've been told I have to plant our new Photinia at least 60cm away from our fence.
However, it's not clear to me if that means:
- 60cm to the centre/trunk of the plant
- 60cm to the edge of the root ball
- 60cm to the edge of the hole I will dig (which I'm told should be twice the diameter of the root ball).
Depending on how big the root ball is, this could be quite a big difference. Can anyone shed any light on this for me?

We are probably going to prune it below the fence line (it's a low fence), so we'll stick with the minimum 60cm to trunk.
