Where to plant a grape vine?

We have been given a lovely tall potted grape vine by friends and I am looking for the ideal place to grow it. I have a pergola which is currently covered in wisteria and a climbing rose and would seem a good spot. Do wisteria and grapes make good bedfellows?

Thanks for your help?
I could agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong...

Place pot on stone slab in the sunniest spot you can find with feet to allow drainage put one of these 6 ft by 3 ft trellis or bigger into the pot to allow grape vine to climb it and run some supporting wires from it for the tendrils. This is what I have done. Plenty of advice to care for it on your search engine. Water once a week with added tomato fertiliser. They also like used coffee grounds. This works for me. I am sure others have their own ideas to help you.

Do you know which type of grape it is?

Is it an "greenhouse" or outdoor grape?
  • The variety is Red Globe

Although I've never done it, if you opt for putting your vine in a greenhouse, it needs to be planted outside the greenhouse and then fed inside, ideally through a pipe or suchlike.  It can then grow up to roof level and attached to wires running the length of the house.  Why outside, I don't know, but I read it somewhere.  Have you ever been to Hampton Court?
