First fledgling of '23!

I knew the starlings had fledged a couple of days ago, all had gone quiet in the roof.. first baby just came down with mum, and got force-fed soaked raisins. 😃
I've really got to find my proper camera though..

Oh! There's now a baby pigeon in the garden - and all the pigeons have disappeared.. poor little bird, I hope they come back for him soon. I don't think I've seen a baby one before, you don't usually do you?

I'm sure I had a baby Blackbird in the garden the other day, it was chirping and begging until one of the local males turned up to feed it.

Aww. 😊 Yes the young stay on the ground for a while don't they?
I can't wait to see 'ours'.

I'm overrun with starling babies at the minute, counted ten in the garden this morning. They're quite sweet but they're really attracting all the local cats so they're worrying me too. They like to have baths in my birdbath but they poo in it loads so it's becoming a full time job keeping the water clean 😄

@Crazybeelady I know what you mean, ours are never out the bath! 😄 We have up to 6 in there in the evenings. I don't change the water more than once a day, it's not really worth it, lol!

We had ten baby starlings this afternoon. Three of them kept flying into the pond. The mum was waiting on one of the logs at the edge and was feeding them when they flapped out of the water.

Three kept going to the bird bath. Lots of the adults were pulling leatherjackets out of the lawn.

I’d filled my feeders up twice by early evening.

They’re gonna bankrupt me at this rate.

Same @TheGreenMan, I'm forever putting more food out. I feel guilty if they come and none is there!

    Yes me too! That's lovely @TheGreenMan 😄
Well it looks like I've got guardianship of the baby pigeon; he was alone for a good 2½ hours in the garden, then flapped up on the fence which is side on to my neighbours. Another pigeon landed next to him and he fell off the fence into a narrow strip between it and their house. I went & told my neighbours and we got to him just before their Jack Russel did!
Later, some pigeons came round and he flew somewhere with them, but I have a feeling it wasn't far because he's been here all morning, and can't balance or fly much yet, and fell out the tree earlier. I haven't seen him drink yet either, but at least he's got food and shelter - it's quite windy here today.
