Weather sealant on Patio help

Hi,

I’ve just painted my patio with 2 coats of all weather masonry paint. B&Q didn’t have specific patio paint and I know technically masonry paint isn’t recommend for patios, however I looked online and if you follow up the all weather paint with water sealant that should do the job.
I’ve just gone to apply to water sealant, I have Sikagard Facade sealant as that’s all b&q had. On the bottle it says not for horizontal surfaces but just wondering if I can still use this? Will it do the job?

Thanks!

It will probably make the surface slippery if not recommended for horizontal surfaces but it’s best to check with the manufacturer.

  • As @Plantminded says, check with the manufacturer, @harry.hunt.  Slipperiness is one very great concern but it could just be that it will 'pool' on a horizontal surface and give inconsistent results.

If the product does cause the surface to be slippy, perhaps a light sprinkling of sharp sand on the surface while the paint is still wet could solve the problem. We've used that technique on a problem area with success.

  • You can actually buy special 'sand', stuff to mix with paint to give it a non-slip texture.  Whereas normal sand grains have sharp corners that can cut through the paint this special 'stuff' has rounded corners and edges that won't.  They used to use it all the times on metal decks but now it's integrated into deck paint.🚢

Problem is, I can't see it working with your sealant because, well, because it's not paint 🤔
