    Maybe it's a regional taste difference. :)
    East Dorset, new (to me) rather neglected garden.

    Dandelions make a tasty salad leaf, if your bees don't like them. 
    Possibly there are other, more preferable flowers around in certain parts of the country/world at the same time.
