Cypress trees

Hi All

We have purchased some cypress trees which we want to line along our drive to the house.  We are on clay soil.
Any advice on what to backfill the holes with e.g compost manure etc?
Also any advice on making sure the trees stay healthy etc?

Thanks

I would suggest that you try to improve the soil right the way along your drive rather than just digging a hole and then backfilling. Composted organic matter is usually the best method on clay soils. Once planted, you could use a similar medium to mulch the surface.
Cypress tend to be shallow rooting but they will still need a good medium to thrive. Smaller trees are often quicker and easier to get established than larger specimens.
Depends on your location but coming up to summer ( strong sun, possible drought ? ) was probably not the best time to do this job.
Again depending on location, aspect ( and weather too of course ), keeping them well watered would be a key factor.
I'm sure others will be able to offer further advice :)
