Wilting Olive Branches

Hi,

I’m a very new gardener - so please bear with me!

I recently bought a medium sized grown olive tree and have replanted into the ground in April.

Unfortunately I did not add gravel to the soil to aid drainage, and we have had quite a lot of rain the last month or so.

Some of the branches are quite long towards the base of the trunk, and they are drooping - although no leaves are falling off.

Could anyone tell me if I need to replant the tree with added gravel for drainage, or is it just that the base branches are long and not particularly thick/hardy - and these should be pruned back?

Any advice very much appreciated!

Thank you,

William

    Hello @williamoliver81 and welcome to the forum 😊

    Olive branches do grow in that manner … it’s perfectly normal and nothing to worry about 👍

    Do you know if your garden soil is very heavy?

    @tui34 grows olive trees … I’ll give them a nudge …

  • Hi @Dovefromabove

    thank you! That’s quite a relief. I’m not sure if the soil is heavy, but I have read that I should have added gravel to the soil when planted and I know I didn’t!

    Thank you again
