Small plot on a slope - advice needed!

edited May 2023 in Problem solving
Hello!
I have recently moved into a new property and trying to make the most of the garden. There is this section to the side of the house which is currently used to keep the recycling and looks untidy and needs some love.
I’d like to turn into a vegetable plot but I’m
not sure if it is a good idea (I’m very new to gardening and taking vegetables). The issue I have is that this section is on a slope (not sure if it’s very clear from the pictures). If I dig it to level it to the top of the white wall, will I  need to put a retaining wall to stop the soil from next door neighbour?
Any other suggestions of what I could do with this area? I’m not much of a flowers plan but would rather turn the place into an edible garden - thank you!

  • Hello @pansyface the area is roughly 5 x 1.30 meters. I’m not sure if I’ve been able to show how much of a slope it is so not sure the greenhouse would work?

You could split it into two levels, one level with the top/fence base and one with the top of the wall. A small wooden retention wall/raised bed wall in the middle. You could have long term tall planting at the back (or climbers, if you can attach support to the fence) and seasonal planting in the front. But my guess is that it is going to be too shade for most vegetable plants.
  • Thank you both :)
Apologies I didn’t answer all of the questions: it gets partial sun so I was thinking of putting on the shade vegetables that can stay in the shade (spinach,..) Yes the fence is mine.
