Over the years from seedling, to pot, to ground we've  tried to identify  this plant. It looks like there's a better chance of a definite  identification  this year.
Any suggestions  welcome  before it gets too big to get out if it's  going to be boring

    Hello B3. Possibly Viburnum acerifolium?

That's it, I think. Doesn't get too big either. It can stay. @Ladybird4

To me, the leaves also look quite like Physocarpus opulifolius. When the buds open, you should be able to tell from the flowers.

Could be. Will post again when the flowers open @Cambridgerose12

Leaves are opposite, which rules out Physocarpus which has alternate leaves.
I believe it is Viburnum opulus.

    Pics below are Viburnum acerifolium.
I need pics of  V.Opulus leaves.

Thank you @Silver surfer. The opulus leaves are more acerish than the acerifolium! Strange. Looks like it's opulus, then.
