House Sparrows on Euphorbia Martini

TheGreenManTheGreenMan Posts: 1,957
Hi all,

Has anyone ever seen a group of house sparrows hopping all over a euphorbia?

I watched about ten of them this morning. They were in and out of the plant, jumping up and down on it. Some of the birds were pecking at the floor around the plant too.

I went out to see if there were any flies on it or aphids but couldn’t see anything.

It was all quite weird.

Any ideas? 🤔

    Possibly.

Very helpful little things aren’t they?

Well there was definitely something tasty on it wasn't there? I've got a little video of that in my mind now, lol!
Although when I read the title, I had an image of some sparrows sat around drinking - from a little glass with an olive in. 😄

    Hahahaha @Slow-worm

Yes, it does look like that when you look at the title.

They were having a lot of fun.

I should have recorded it to snip some stills from the video.

    Next time!

I get aphids on the euphorbia, which I always forget about, and the sparrows and dunnocks are often in there, so it's possible that's what they're finding.
I can't see my euphorbia from the house, so it's always tricky to tell what they're doing, but I see them flying in there.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

I’d love to think they were just having fun in there. Using it like a bouncy castle or playing hide and seek.
  • Sparrows enjoy our dogwoods. I could watch them for hours.

'My' sparrows like to land on a bamboo stem and ride it to the ground. 😄
