Can Weigela flower well in partial shade?

msqingxiaomsqingxiao Posts: 482
I've always wanted a weigela for our back garden and finally spotted a bargain at Wilko yesterday, paid £3.5 for a small Weigela Florida Bristol Ruby plant already covered in flowers. It says on the label that it's suitable for full sun to partial shade. We are running out of full sun space in our garden, so just wondering if it can flower well in partial shade pls? Our back garden is northeast facing, and the center patch gets sun from mid-morning to early afternoon at this time of year. Thanks!

Yes - no problem at all. Mine gets very little sun at all. I only grow the white one, which is why it works well there  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Agree with @Fairygirl.  We have one in full sun, one in partial shade and one only gets sun early morning and then in full shade. All flower well and are doing so now. Ruby is a great one.
