Transplanting Leeks

These leeks are between 15 and 20cm tall. Should I be trying to pot them on into 7.5cm pots prior tot them going in the garden, or should i just hold off for them to get a big bigger in the seed tray. Just worried that they're running out of nutrients and space where they are.

There is no need to pot on. You can keep the leeks in the tray until you transplant them into their final location.

Potting on into slightly bigger pots or cell trays is done for convenience as you don't need to tip out the tray and separate them at transplating time. It makes sharing and selling plants much more easier.

For window sill germination and propagation, where it can easily be filled up and crowded, use the small size of the pot or cell tray to restrict plant growth. They don't need to be fed either.

After transplanting and growing on, the outcome will be the same which ever method you use.

I have transplanted out the leek seedlings (which were sown in a tray and not potted on) some weeks ago (but in the SW). They do sulk for a while but are getting going now.
