French lavender

I purchased two small French lavender plants a few weeks ago, to put in my small front (pebbled) garden.  One of them is doing really well but the other looks a bit poorly, the flowers are fading and drooping.  I've read that new lavender needs watering a couple of times a week but that, once established, is drought-resistant.  My question is: should I take off the dying flowers to try and revive it? Thanks  :)

Has it been cold at night? French lavender is more tender than other lavenders. I would take off the dying flowers. You haven't overwatered it have you?

  • No, not been a cold night.  The other plant I bought (at the same time and from the same supplier) is doing very well, already sprouting new foliage and flowers.  I don't think I've overwatered the poorly one (I've given it the same as the healthy one), but am not really sure how much to give at each watering.

Sometimes plants just do that, it doesn't have to be something you've done.
I always water new plants in once a day for about a week, and then reduce it.

Sounds as though it's not your fault. Any possibility of taking the poorly plant back to the supplier to ask for an exchange?
