Potting on seedlings

is it ok to pot on most seedlings with the compost a little way further up the stems, or just some types?
In London. Keen but lazy.

    I've done that with just about everything I started indoors and so far all is growing well.

    I’ve been told , as long as I don’t bury the seed leaves , putting straggling seedlings into a deeper compost is beneficial
