Is this a bryony or plant?

i have a new house and this has popped up. My mind is saying bryony.  But i can't be sure. The previous owner had a thing for growing "wild" as well as real plants so i haven't a clue! I already have horsetail, bindweed and ground alder! It has a very glossy leaf which is not ugly... But it does seem to be a very good climber so want to ensure i don't have a thug.

Yes it looks like bryony, I also see a grape vine behind it.
  • Yes we have a grape vine too.. Might be why an app to identify said it was grape! 🙄 I haven't found a definite photo that nails it on briony the leaves are vv glosy and large...
  • Easy to get rid of? Feeling that having it wrapping around my dessert grape vine when poisonous is not a good thing

I have a couple I keep cutting off but the root system is persistent.  You could try digging it out or just keep chopping it off. The root is toxic.
  • Great! Another rogue 🙄 i am sure the owner of the house before us just decided to let anything grow, and just called it planting for the benefit of the wildlife... I have already dug two tonne bagsworth of weeds out of the "vegetable garden" which has  ground alder/bindweed / and horsetail in the greenhouse. The deep dig to try and get all the roots (with a sieve!) may work... Or give me more of a headache later... All layered like lasagna in multi layers of soil and weed suppressant.. Whats another rogue plant amongst friends 🤣🤪

Yes bryony. It may well have a large tuberous root that’ll need digging out. Good luck.  🤞

  • And it growing in the same area as a grape... A fig tree and green alkanet... A vine a vigorous tree and a plant that brings me up in rash that makes me feel i stuck my finger in an electrical socket 😂⚡ oh joy!
