This is growing in the very narrow verge of the lane , it’s got what looks like flower buds

Thank you , I’m not sure it’s a poppy , the buds are deep in the rosette of leaves , and the leaves are very soft

Here’s the proof that I know nuffin ! You were right , a. Vivid red poppy , it’s where wild flower seeds were scattered on the verges of the back lane ! So far the tractors have missed it

@arneil Wow that is lovely let's hope the tractors keep away.

    Lovely  :)
They can have quite different habits though, so that's maybe why you didn't think it was a poppy.
En route to a hill last week, I drove through Dumbarton, which is just before you get to Loch Lomond. In spring, many of the grassed areas are chock a block with daffs, but at this time of year, all the verges in the middle of the road as you leave the town are full of ox eye daisies and poppies. Gorgeous.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

@Fairygirl We did have rain here in spring enough to boost the dog roses which are better than I have seen for sometime.

Lovely Poppies, but P.orientalis, but our native Poppy, which is an annual.
How can you lie there and think of England
