Ceanothuis (Impressus Victoria)

Hello folks, we have a Ceanothus Impressis Victoria which I think is a non climbing type, which isnt flowering. It gets sun for around 5-6 hours per day and we are feeding it currently every 14 days. It is in a mixture of general purpose compost and top soil with a small amount of horticultural grit ( we are beginner gardeners so admittedly we're not confident we know what we are doing). Any suggestions would be appreciated - thank you!

I wouldn't keep on feeding it. It needs a lot of time to settle in and establish, so food isn't very helpful - just watering. If it's had a slow release food of some kind, that's plenty for quite a long time.
I don't know how happy it'll be in that container, long term. I've only ever had them in the ground. They do grow quite big, so it may need something much bigger than that by next year. I presume it's got good drainage at the base too?

If it has buds already set, it should flower a little. The main thing at this stage is to make sure it doesn't dry out - especially for the next 6 months or so. Any potted plant, especially a shrub, needs to be well hydrated, especially in a sunny site, and with a lot of foliage, as rain certainly can't get in easily.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Thank you Fairygirl, lots of good info here. Weve had this for around 1 year and it barely seems to have grown - perhaps this is due to the pot size. My mum purchased a Ceanothis around 2 months ago and its already covered in flowers and its grown by at least 75% - although hers is a climber unlike ours. We will move it to a larger container and just give it water for the timebeing. Thank you.
