New lawn

Hello

Hoping for some advice.

Lawn was seeded in our rental last October. It has taken Ok in parts, patchy in others. The weeds are out of control.

We intend to do the following order:

1. hand weed the big thug weeds.
2. Mow
3. Treat the remaining lawn weeds with lawn weedol (apologies I appreciate this is not the most environmentally sensitive thing to do, but its bad, so not a great deal of choice).
4. Fertilize the good parts. Is this ok when the lawn isn't properly established?
5. Re seed the patchy bits.

Does this order seem ok.

Many thanks

I'm assuming as its a rental you're not after a golf green finish but rather a practical and decent looking lawn...

1 - Mow it regularly and you shouldn't get thug weeds.
    2 - Ditto
3 - Weeds are subjective - What is a lawn weed? If you mow regularly then weeds won't be a problem
4 - Why do you feel it needs fertilising? Are there signs that this is the case. Lawns very rarely need fertilising.
5 - Top dress and re-seed the patchy areas.

  • @Kmeh Don’t fertilise until you have reseeded and the new seed has grown otherwise you will have patches of lawn greener and longer than others.  After you have sown the seed spray, using a pump action sprayer, with liquid seaweed.  This will aid with the germination and growth of the new seed. Lawns being my game I have to disagreed with @McRazz.  All lawns need fertilising in order to keep them healthy.

Thank you for the reply, especially in relation to the seedweed feed.
