Black branches on new acer sango kaku

Hello,

I'm having a problem with an acer tree (sango kaku) which have been delivered with the ends of the branches being black.

I've had 6 trees in total delivered with this - I had 2 trees delivered, then 2 replacement trees before ordering from another nursery where the ends of the branches are black.

Is this normal or acceptable for acers? I've been told cutting off to the next new growth will solve this? Any help before I plant these would be appreciated!

I wouldn't be happy with that. As well as the black there are bits at the top with no leaves on. I can't see the ends of the main branches but suspect from the parts I can see that they've been cut back and a cluster of shoots has developed. This doesn't lead to a shapely tree. I'm sure it could be dealt with but I wouldn't buy one like that

I would get that sent back, because it might indicate a fungal or bacterial problem. Cutting back to healthy wood might help but I would rather not risk it.
