Ants in my greenhouse

I have black ants running all over everything in my greenhouse.

I’ve recently moved home and because my new compost heap hasn’t produced anything useful yet, I bought compost. I think that they are coming from inside the compost bag.

I have tomatoes and cucumbers growing and I’m about to pot them on - everything is so slow in Devon this year.

Will the ants cause any harm or shall I just ignore them? I have been squashing a few at a time.

Put the bag outside the green house and give the contents a really good soak. If the nest is actually  in the bag, they will move on.

They may be in the compost butchances are they've been living in the greenhouse cos they like it dry for their nests.

Dampen the compost as suggestedbut also hose down the greenhouse and make sure it is wetted.  You can also pour a solution of 1 small bottle of essential clove oil in 5 litres of water over thegreenhouse base.  They don't like the smell and move on.  repeat as needed and make sure your pots don't go thirsty this summer.
