Thank you figetbones. After the first few answers came through I decided to keep just one leader, (although as the plants have grown I’ve noticed it keeps on happening). I grew Marmande last year and a couple of plants had side shoots which “got away” and it was a nightmare trying to support them, so I will try to keep it simple this year! Thank you everyone for your helpful comments!

Tomatoes do keep producing side shoots. If you're growing them as single stems it's just a case of going through them once a week or so and nipping off the new side shoots.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained

JennyJ - Thank you. Yes I can usually find side shoots easily and check almost every day. This one confused me because it was as big as the growing point and growing next to it. It seems from the first people who answered that I had “two leaders”. All sorted now thank you and the plants are coming along beautifully.
