Sluglamen

Slow-wormSlow-worm Posts: 1,630

I had some lovely cyclamen plants which @Dovefromabove kindly sent me a while back. They were doing really well so I planted them out last month, and the slugs have nearly demolished the lot. They've never eaten the others. They are definitely some kind of mutant superslugs here!
Does anyone else have plants scoffed which slugs and snails allegedly won't touch?

We have slugs @Slow-worm … they never touch the Cyclamen …you must have monstrous slugs 😱

But they’ve only eaten the leaves right?

Yes, most of the leaves are gone. 😢 There's another one about 6ft away that they've ignored since last year, it's bizarre.
I hope they come back, they were looking so good! (The cyclamen, not the slugs! 😄).

The Cyclamen will be dying back anyway, I expect they'll turn up again at flowering time.

@nutcutlet it's been helped along quite a lot mind. 😉
  • My slugs are demolishing my lovely bearded irises this year. They don’t touch the native and common flag iris, of course. It’s odd as iris leaves don’t seem very tender. They do seem to be avoiding agapanthus this year.

Pesky things. I have to say they ignored my agapanthus, thankfully! They've stripped some snowdrop leaves and a few foxgloves though, so maybe a few have died of digitalis poisoning - I'll never know! 😄

I have never known slugs to eat Foxgloves, or Snowdrops, that is very odd.

They are found regularly eating both in my garden. As well as other things they ar not supposed to like, like verbena bonariensis, ferns and lungwort!

I got a coreopsis for a quid from Homebase. Thought it was such a good bargain. Left it outside in the pot to plant the next day. All gone.
  • @TheGreenMan, that is really annoying!

i have now taken to slug hunting every night and it’s a real chore, but they head for the same plants and are a never ending supply.

find them chomping late at night on the lupine, irises and mallow!
