Yes @ Slow-worm I wish you would the pigeons are evil and such huge numbers ,flocks of maybe 20 and30 at a time . Poor little sparrows no wonder they head for the bushes when that lot arrive
We have had lots over the last two years and this year they’ve been joined by starlings. No idea why they’ve shown up all of a sudden. Magpies still top of the tree; then jackdaws; then starlings and then house sparrows. The pigeons just bumble about.
I have had a few more coming in, but not many, I would say four max whereas previously one or two and they and the blackbirds often come in together and help with 'look out' duty while the others feed. It is lovely to see and hear them. I have seen them in privet hedges quite a bit locally too.
Sorry to witness the demise of the forum. 😥😥😥😡😡😡I am Spartacus
I understand that it was the need for live food for the fledgling that caused the drop. Perhaps the regulations about fuel emissions has made a small difference. Do you remember when you would drive along and your windscreen would be covered in bugs? That doesn't happen anymore.
Loads of them [sparrows] round here - there's a little flock of them I pass quite often that nest in a house roof, and then they're in and out of the shrubs in the front garden, squabbling and shouting, or bathing in puddles etc. 'Mine' can access the feeder cages, so always food available for them, although there's plenty around for all the birds now, so they don't need the extra food so much over the next few months. Very surprised about dunnocks @Dovefromabove- always plenty in my garden. The most regular visitors by far. I must go up past the farm and see if the hedge sparrows are using the nest boxes again. Lovely to see them last year and chat with the bloke who's monitoring them.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Sparrows are the most prolific birds around here!
