Replacement For Wysteria

VoyagerxpVoyagerxp Posts: 651
I've had a Wysteria growing against the side of my shed for at least 5 years and it has never flowered.I've followed youtube videos on pruning but still no flowers. I brought it as a very small plant from morrisons and it didn't have any flowers on it then. I've been told its best buying a grafted one with flowers on it already as they can take 10+ years to flower and they need at least 6 hours of sunlight , not sure if this is true.In its current place it is it will never get that amount of light. Not sure what else to do, leave it  or cut my losses and planting somthing else. If i do i'd like a climber that is evergreen to cover the birdbox for privacy against predators. Any ideas peeps

I think you'd be better off with a clematis on your shed as wisteria is far too vigorous and can get very heavy.

  • Mine took 7 years before it flowered. In my case it was clear it did not have enough water and kept aborting its flower buds. But right now its in full flower. I'd say, give it time and allow the roots to fully establish.
