Thuja pydramidalis

Hi
My pydramidalis is turning brown at the bottom, the top looks healthy and green. Also should I be trimming it, I’ve not touched it as I did read that it should get its shape on its own.

Thuja occidentalis 'Pyramidalis' foliage can often brown at the base ; trim away carefully avoiding damaging the young stems . The top growth looks fit & healthy so avoid trimming .
Over time it will form a natural conical shape .

I'd clear a lot of that slate away too - it just prevents moisture getting through to the roots. Especially important if you're in a drier area.
Other than that, I wouldn't worry too much at this stage, but if you haven't had it long, make sure the ground/soil it's in is suitable.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Thanks for the comments, I’ve had it since June 2020, can’t recall when I put it in the ground but it was probably spring 2021. I will trim the brown away and see how I go. I did get a thuja Dancia at the same time which is planted in the same area and that is doing good, nice and green and getting it’s natural shape.
