It comes with slow release feed in as well so I won't need to do that this season. I will probably repot my other blueberries when they're dormant again. Especially as I now have another spare large pot thanks to my little olive tree dying. I've seen a lot of dead olive trees around in the last month, including the one our neighbour has potted out the front. Something about the conditions this winter must have been off.
Olive trees aren't hardy everywhere anyway, so it's not just the wet then freeze this winter had that can be a reason for them dying. Certainly, they won't thrive in cold wet areas, but I don't know where you are in the country which always makes it hard to offer valid advice. Your profile is on private, so no clues there
I think the problem with a lot of these 'ready to use' mixes is, they're just something else to sell to people. Blueberries just need enough acidity in their growing medium, and adequate, softer water, with reasonable sun. A soil based medium if they're potted long term, and good drainage.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
The blueberries will be fine I'm sure. The ones I planted last year in pots are doing great, other than the disaster I caused myself by cutting off all new growth on one last year due to the aphid infestation as mentioned in my other post - this plant has produced about five flowers this year unfortunately. The other has made a huge amount of flowers though, so I have every confidence that if I leave them alone this year, the one that hasn't flowered properly will be back on track next spring.
We have soft water here but last summer I used a water filter jug during very dry periods. Which is a pain though because they do dry out in pots very fast so it takes a long time to filter enough for them. I don't have anywhere for a water butt either unfortunately
There's no need to filter soft water! It's hard water that's alkaline.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
