Honeysuckle recommendations

fizzylizfizzyliz Posts: 398
Hi, I want to buy some honeysuckle.
I’d like them to be really fragrant! Not too unmanageable. Good for bees.
One definitely for an arch! And possibly one for a wall and one possibly for obelisk?
Thanks so much!

@fizzyliz I would say that most honeysuckles do get big. Their beauty is due to the fact that they are allowed to go eveyrwhere. Mildew was a problem last year due to dry conditions so retentive soil is best.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.

There is a smaller one but I can't remember the name of it - Rhubarb and Custard or something similar.
Most are fine for a wall or arch, and some are evergreen. All good for pollinators, so it comes down to preference and where you can obtain them most easily. Most GCs will have some.
Halliana is evergreen and pretty vigorous. Nicely scented. There's a variation of called Hall's Prolific which is similar. Both are usually quite easily available too.

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

I grew Honey Baby in my previous garden.  It was compact, easy to train, flowered over a long period with a very good scent and had nice scarlet berries in autumn.  You don't seem to see it in garden centres, only online.  I got mine from a little nursery close to my previous home.

Lonicera Honey Baby (PBR)s a super  dwarf shrub.
But no good for an arch.

"Princess Kate" smells divine and has variegated foliage on new growth.

Nice photos @Silver surfer .  I grew my Honey Baby against a 6 ft trellis and trained and pruned it up not outwards.  I agree probably not suitable for an arch as it's slower growing.  Maybe it's like Euonymous Emerald Gaiety which will climb if put against a wall or fence, but will be bushy if not.  I guess honeysuckles bred to be compact still have some climbing tendencies if encouraged.
