Beech taking over my Yew hedge
Hi. When I moved in to our house 8yrs ago I'm pretty sure we had an amazing 3m high yew hedge... Over the years it seems to have turned in to a 60% beech hedge!
I assume the beech has just grown much faster than the yew, and the yew is being suffocated.
This year I've already had to trim the hedge twice as the beech growth sprouts all over the place.
I'm an absolute dunce when it comes to the garden - should I be removing the beech, and give the yew a few years to recover, or is it commonplace to have this mixture of hedge?
If so, any idea how long it would take to fill In the huge gaps that will invariably be left?
(I'd prefer the yew as it will need trimming so much less! And I think looks nicer)
Many thanks for your help
