Is this leafy gall or normal growth?

  • I guess now that I have to cut them back there's no harm in giving it a go! I will trim back further as Pete said, sorry didn't repply to everyone directly I've been out today!

     Thanks so much for your advice! I didn't realise how much they needed pruning back, I have about 10 that need the same treatment.

    I will start taking them out when weather permits. I didn't have a fan on them so there wasn't any agitation, maybe part of why they have been able to grow so spindley.

    Will try to do better with the next one's (got a bit carried away and bought a lot more tubers in Sarah raven and Suttons sales recently).
     At least these ones are all named so I can look up what they are meant to look like and how tall they can grow. The first were from a supermarket and just named by colour mix)

    Doesn't look like a gall to me more like old growth?
    I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.
