Why are my cucumbers so miserable?!

My tomatoes are looking good. Aubergines doing pretty well. Beans romping away. But why are my cucumbers so utterly miserable? They’ve been on a nice warm south facing windowsill for ages, I check them every day and water them if they look like they need it (maybe once every few days?) but to be honest they always look unhappy. I tried putting them outside during the day today and yesterday as it’s been sunny and mild. But they look more miserable than ever. They’re Diva variety (diva by name, diva by nature)… any ideas how I can make them happier? (Sorry about the sideways pic)

    They look OK to me.

Once they are planted out (not yet) and the weather is warmer they should romp away.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

They look fine to me too! I have two in the greenhouse they are hardly doing anything at all just a couole of leaves - yours look better!

Oh that makes me feel better, thank you. Fingers crossed!

Oh thank you! I’ve been worried they look very droopy but sounds like I’m worrying unnecessarily – I guess it is only just May so I should probably just be patient :)

Keep water away from the stem, they are prone to rotting off.
  • they need warmer temperatures.

They do look rather leggy but that is only expected if you have them indoors.
If you plan to grow them in a GH, then it will pay you to pop them out there in the day and maybe bring them in at night for the next few days ( depending where you are located ) until you feel it safe to plant them in their final location.  If they are a reliably outdoor type, then you will have to judge the weather but basically do a similar regime to get them hardened off before finally planting.
All my cukes, both GH and outdoor types, are way behind yours ( SW UK ) but have been sitting in pots in the unheated GH for a week or so.  Good luck with yours anyway :)

Thank you! I foolishly put mine outside today and then forgot about them while it rained torrentially for a while… they now look more miserable than ever. Greenhouse tomorrow!
