    With a one bin/heap composting system, the top will always be poorly rotted.  You have to speed it up some way (there are several ideas but I have no wxperience).  Or use from the bottom.

    To save space, You could combine leaf and general garden waste composting into one. Or, You could mulch with unrotted leaves.

    Tricky then @lydiaann. I made my bins smaller so that I could use them that way - 1 to fill, 1 to rot, and to get a better site for them. That might be an option for you. 
    I don't need water butts though, so that always helps. 
    Could you put your collected leaves somewhere else? In bags? I find they break down better in bags, although that might just be my climate helping.
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    I think we're getting away from the horny problem of the slugs!  But, I AM taking all suggestions on board, I promise!  Northumberland calls, time to pack!  Thank you SO much, everyone...I knew I could count on good, sound advice once more!
