I’m not sure why you would want to ‘get rid of it’ is it for the temporary growing of climbing veg or or other annuals and you want to take it down at the end of the season? If it’s not a permanent feature, sinking the concrete blocks in the bed and filling them with self compacting gravel or clay soil i.e. giving it heavy feet, would be sufficient to steady the ship if you don’t want to concrete it in.

Most arches and obelisks are made of hollow round or square section steel and manage to survive for many years in the ground. The integrated lattice is a really good tip from @Marlorena. Even for roses I’ve found the distance between horizontal bars on obelisks to be rather too wide and definitely hopeless for clematis!

This is an arch I’ve got on order, it has lattice on the sides at least, to help initial growth:

  • I would remove it if it would corrode as mentioned above but other than that it would be a permanent structure mainly for veg 👍🏻

I like that arch very much, @Nollie

The one in my garden is made in the UK by Gap Garden products. It’ s been up 25 years, supports a heavy rose and is still almost as good as new, never having been painted or repaired.

If it’s for veg I would definitely go for a lattice one, otherwise you might have to fiddle around with bamboo stakes as well.

It’s by Louis Moulin from Amaz*n @BenCotto. It’s more a decorative feature to join two beds either side of a walkway but I’m thinking of growing a solanum or other sun-loving climber up it.

I have Gap obelisks and they are excellent, sounds as if the arches are too.
