Help with rose plant - aphids and mould I think

This little rose plant looked great in spring, it was covered in shiny fresh new leaves.
Now however, it's not so great with so many green aphids I just discovered.
I have heard of pulling them off, using soap solution, neem spray. I have some citronella oil, eucalyptus oil, and grapefruit seed extract (citricidal), which I could make into sprays but I don't know if they'd harm the plant.
For the blackened leaves I guess I should pull them off but don't know how to stop it happening again.
Any ideas for how to best help this rose are much appreciated.

I hang lard filled half coconut shells beside shrubs that are vulnerable. The birds soon pick them off.

What a brilliant idea Balgay.Hill, I was thinking if I could only tell the birds, they would have a feast. At the moment I have a lot of robins and starlings, not so many bluetits but a few. Many pigeons though with never-ending stomachs and they will probably gobble it all up, that's the only problem.
I might well give it a try. Not quite sure how to hang it, I guess some kind of structure behind the rose pot would work, like bamboo sticks in another plant pot.
