What's this plant?

Sorry its sideways. I can't edit it on my phone on the forum.

Does anyone recognise this plant? It may have been mixed it with some snakes head fritillary plants, that I've planted out in the lawn. But it also may have just grown there. I've got 2 of them, pretty sure I had 1 last year and it didn't flower, but looks like it might do something this year. I don't recognise it at all.
But it has a distinctive stem with the leaves attached  so hoping someone recognises it?

I’m no expert but could it be a Carex?
  • I don't think so, but thanks for the suggestion. I've got carex and this is more like a herbaceous plant.

My guess it’s Tragopogon pratensis - Goat’s Beard or Meadow Salsify.

A lovely plant but seeds in the same way as dandelion. Are they related?

Agree with @Asarum We have it in the garden in a wildlife area and it is in flower now. It is also called Jack go to bed at noon as the flowers close up around noon time. Meadow salsify. We don't mind it where we have it growing but yes it can spread like mad.

Yes it is related to dandelions.
If we are right but it has purple flowers it is culinary salsify T. porrifolius which is also in the wild. Pretty but fleeting.

  • Thanks everyone. Yes I think it is a salsify. Not sure which colour. I'll let you know, it can stay in my lawn... Well I think I'd better call it a meadow. I've got yellow rattle growing this year and many wildflowers. The bees love it.
  • Just wanted to confirm.... Yes it was a Yellow Salsify. Its beautiful and the seed heads are even better. So its staying and i hope i get some more.
