Is my cherry tree dying?

Hello,

I'm after some advice please. My neighbour popped around yesterday to tell me that my cherry tree in my garden is dying. Could anyone confirm or refute this? She didn’t give an explanation why when asked. We’ve just moved into the property and have never owned a cherry tree before. We have however removed all the ivy off of the tree this winter (late Feb), so you may see some dead ivy still attached to a branch or two in the picture.

Many thanks for any help or advice.

It's churning out blossom alright, I can only see dead ivy that was growing up it, and in my opinion it's better it's gone. 😊
Pretty random neighbour statement without an explanation.

Is it anywhere near their property by any chance? Perhaps they don't like falling leaves or blossom so they may hope they can encourage you to chop it down.

  • Thanks so much for the reply. I think perhaps it was more of a feeling of impending death and she also felt that the ivy was protecting it prior to our removal, which hasn’t been my experience with ivy. It seems to only have leaves at the tip of the branches. Not sure if that’s also normal for this time of year for this cherry.
