Saw these nice strong 9cm pot plants sold at my local Morrison's for £2.39, so couldn't resist and bought one to cover up a bamboo cane trellis. Had a look at previous posts and realised that it's quite vigorous and can twine around nearby plants. Just wondering if its roots also run everywhere and send out suckers? Not sure if I should keep it in a pot or plant in the ground? I'll keep an eye on its growth and make sure it stays disciplined.  :) Thanks!

Don't even think about it! It's a thug. It will wrap around anything it touches and spread underground via suckers. I have a constant battle with next door's plant.

Not just suckers, but its lax stems will root anywhere they touch the ground. Mine started as a cheapy from the supermarket and it was a mistake. Maybe put it in a pot on a hard surface where you can keep it confined.

Give it to someone you don't like😉

Thanks both for the comments! I'll restrict it to a pot. Maybe the winter will do it in anyways. It's already covered in buds so a bit reluctant to just chuck it  :D
  • I planted one of these decades ago, tempted by the low price and the name Jasmine,  and dug it up again a year later (with difficulty).  I have never been able to understand the attraction of these plants which have tiny, unimpressive flowers and are very thuggish.

It’s a shame it isn’t scented, would redeem slightly the thuggish behaviour 🙄
